Created Equal?: Gender Roles and Their Effect on Modern Parenting

The Equal Parent is a movement created to inspire current and future parents to be equally involved in raising their children. The goal is to break down the traditional narrative that women are supposed to take care of the home and the children, and men are supposed to work and be the breadwinner. In doing this, hopefully society will begin to see parents as parents, regardless of gender. The Equal Parent also recognizes that there are many types of familial situations today, such as single parents, adoptive parents, same sex parents, and more. Many families are already breaking the “traditional” mold. Through branding, merchandise, social media, informational pamphlets, and more, The Equal Parent movement comes to life, encouraging changes in the way we see family and gender roles. The project also travels through my thesis journey
and research in creating this brand.
